Ready to fill a cool, partly shaded spot with colour? Follow our step-by-step Mimulus Magic™ Grow Guide for sowing, germination, regional timing and ongoing care.

Mimulus Magic Ball Mix is a compact, free-flowering Mimulus × hybridus F1 mix for pots, hanging baskets and sheltered border edges. It is supplied as pelleted seed.

Quick Grow Facts

  • Plant Type: Compact bedding annual
  • Scientific Name: Mimulus × hybridus
  • Position: Bright partial shade; gentle morning sun is suitable in cool weather
  • Sow Depth: Surface sow; do not cover pellets
  • Germination: About 5–7 days at 18–20°C
  • Spacing: 20–25 cm in beds; allow airflow in containers
  • Height and Spread: About 20–25 cm tall and wide

Why Grow This Variety

  • Mixed bright blooms add colour to cool, lightly shaded spaces.
  • Compact, floriferous plants suit beds, containers and hanging baskets.
  • The series tolerates light frost once established, but young plants need protection from hard frost.

Growing Notes

  • Use clean cells or small pots with a fine, free-draining seedling mix.
  • Place one pellet on the moist surface and keep it evenly moist until it dissolves; do not bury, soak, chip or pre-treat it.
  • After true leaves develop, harden plants off before planting into humus-rich, well-drained soil.
  • Keep the root zone evenly moist, avoid hot afternoon sun and remove spent flowers to extend the display.

Seed safety: This is pelleted ornamental seed. Keep seed away from children, pets and food-preparation surfaces, wash hands after handling, and do not use it for sprouts or microgreens.
