Impatiens Solarscape Orange Burst Seed produces vivid orange blooms for high-energy summer colour in South African beds, pots and landscape-style plantings. It is a seed-raised interspecific impatiens that suits full-sun to part-shade positions where moisture is managed well.

Plant Information

  • Plant Type: Tender tropical perennial, usually grown as a warm-season annual bedding and container plant.
  • Scientific Name: Impatiens x hybrida, interspecific hybrid.
  • Common Name: Busy Lizzie / interspecific impatiens.
  • Flower Colour: Bright orange.

Growing Information

  • General Sowing Time: Start seed in warm, protected trays from late winter to spring; transplant once frost risk has passed and nights are warming.
  • Position: Full sun to part shade with reliable moisture; use morning sun and afternoon shade in very hot, dry or windy areas.
  • Sow Depth: Surface sow or press seed lightly into moist seedling mix; do not cover heavily because impatiens seed needs light to germinate.
  • Spacing: 35-45 cm for most bedding and container plantings; allow the wider spacing for mass plantings or larger pots.
  • Germination: About 14-21 days at roughly 21-24 C in warm, evenly moist conditions.
  • Height: Typically around 30-45 cm in bedding and container culture.
  • Available Pack Sizes: 5 raw seed, 5000 raw seed, 100 raw seed

Why Grow Impatiens Solarscape Orange Burst?

  • Bright orange blooms bring warm, tropical colour to containers, borders and mass plantings.
  • Seed-propagated Solarscape impatiens give gardeners and landscapers more flexibility than vegetative-only varieties.
  • Well suited to full-sun beds and containers when plants are not allowed to dry out.
  • Mounded plants help fill patio pots, borders, summer beds and landscape-style colour blocks.
  • A useful warm-season flower for South African gardens where frost-free, moist conditions can be provided.
  • Flowers attract garden pollinators while providing a lush tropical look.

Garden Uses

Grow Impatiens Solarscape Orange Burst in patio containers, hanging baskets, sunny beds with regular watering, part-shade borders, poolside planters and summer colour displays. It works especially well planted in groups, where the mounded habit and saturated flower colour create a strong seasonal effect.

Growing Notes

  • Use a fine, sterile seedling mix and keep trays warm, humid and evenly moist until germination.
  • Water gently so the tiny surface-sown seed is not washed away.
  • Harden seedlings off gradually before planting into richer garden soil or containers.
  • Plant into compost-improved, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil or a quality potting mix.
  • Water at soil level where possible and avoid letting plants remain dry for long periods.
  • Use mulch in garden beds to reduce moisture loss during hot South African weather.
  • Feed container plants lightly but regularly during active growth.
  • Provide airflow and avoid crowded, wet foliage to reduce disease pressure.
  • Trim lightly if plants become stretched or tired later in the season.
  • Protect from frost; these impatiens should be treated as warm-season annuals in cold inland areas.
