Gomphrena White Seed brings crisp white globe flowers to warm-season beds, cutting gardens and dried-flower arrangements. This easy annual is a lovely cooling contrast for brighter summer colours in sunny South African gardens.

Plant Information

  • Plant Type: Annual
  • Scientific Name: Gomphrena globosa

Growing Information

  • General Sowing Time: Spring to early summer once frost risk has passed; start under cover 6-8 weeks earlier for an earlier planting.
  • Position: Full sun.
  • Sow Depth: Surface sow or cover very lightly; light helps germination.
  • Spacing: 20-30 cm for cut-flower or garden rows; allow more room for bushier display plants.
  • Germination: Can be uneven; soak seed overnight to help speed germination.
  • Height: Typically 30-60 cm, depending on growing conditions and variety.
  • Available Pack Sizes: 50 raw seed

Why Grow Gomphrena White?

  • White globe flowers brighten mixed plantings and balance stronger colours.
  • Excellent for fresh cutting and dried arrangements.
  • Attracts pollinators while staying neat and manageable in sunny beds.
  • Heat tolerant once established in well-drained soil.
  • Low maintenance and rewarding through the warm season.

Garden Uses

Use Gomphrena White as a clean contrast in summer borders, mixed cut-flower rows and dried-flower projects. It pairs beautifully with purple Gomphrena, zinnias, celosia, cosmos and warm-toned annuals that benefit from a white balancing flower.

Growing Notes

  • Start seed in warm conditions and keep the surface evenly moist until seedlings are established.
  • Harden off seedlings before planting outdoors after frost risk has passed.
  • Pinch early buds if you want a fuller, more branched plant.
  • Water at the base and avoid prolonged damp foliage in cool, humid weather.
  • Cut regularly for vases or drying to keep plants productive.
