Garden Uses
Plant Gomphrena Purple in sunny borders, cutting gardens and informal flower beds where its round purple blooms can be picked regularly. It also works well in dried-flower projects because the papery flower heads retain colour and shape after drying.
Growing Notes
- Sow approximately 3 mm deep in warm conditions; germination is usually 5–14 days at about 21–26 °C.
- Harden seedlings and plant out only after frost risk has passed.
- Use full sun, free-draining soil and 15–30 cm spacing.
- Water steadily while young, then avoid constantly wet roots; maintain airflow in humid regions.
- For fresh use, cut coloured heads before they fully open; for drying, cut fully open heads and hang them in a dry, airy place.
