Geranium Multibloom Red Seed produces compact, early-flowering F1 zonal pelargoniums with abundant single red flower trusses for sunny pots and neat beds.
Grow Guide: How to grow Multibloom Red seed pelargoniums in South Africa.
Quick Grow Facts
-
Growth type: Tender compact upright perennial, commonly grown as seasonal bedding or a container annual where frost occurs.
-
Botanical name: Pelargonium × hortorum Multibloom F1 Red; commonly called geranium, but not a true Geranium.
-
Seed form: Scarified seed; the preparation is already complete, so sow as supplied and do not scarify again.
-
Best sowing time: Start in protected warmth from late winter into spring; plant outside after frost risk, or use another mild local window before peak heat.
-
Position: Full sun; give afternoon protection in very hot districts.
-
Sow depth and light: Cover by about 1 mm with fine mix or vermiculite. Light is not required for germination.
-
Germination: Keep the medium close to 23°C; allow about 7–14 days for visible home-tray emergence.
-
Spacing: 25–30 cm apart in beds or containers.
-
Mature size: Approximately 25–30 cm high and 25–30 cm wide.
-
Flower outcome: Abundant single red trusses. Seed-raised plants can show small natural differences in tone, timing and size.
Why Grow This Variety
- Compact plants fit pots, window boxes and tidy bedding.
- Multibloom is earlier to finish than the more vigorous series.
- Named red colour gives a coordinated display without promising cloned uniformity.
- No support or routine pinching is needed.
Garden Uses
Grow Multibloom Red in sunny patio pots, window boxes or bedding rows with 25–30 cm between plants and reliable drainage.
Growing Notes
- Sow the locally supplied scarified seed as-is; do not nick, sand or soak it again.
- Move seedlings into bright light as soon as they emerge.
- Water thoroughly, then let the upper mix begin to dry before watering again.
- Deadhead complete spent flower trusses and protect plants from frost.
