Cineraria New Look Seed is best treated as a Dusty Miller-style silver foliage plant rather than a flowering cineraria. Its large, deeply lobed, white-woolly leaves bring strong contrast to South African beds, containers and floral arrangements.
Plant Information
- Plant Type: Silver foliage bedding plant; usually grown as an annual, but perennial in mild conditions.
- Scientific Name: Jacobaea maritima, syn. Senecio cineraria
Growing Information
- General Sowing Time: Late winter to spring for spring and summer planting; autumn sowing can suit mild, frost-free areas.
- Position: Full sun to partial shade; stronger light gives better silver foliage colour.
- Sow Depth: Surface sow on moist seedling mix and do not cover deeply.
- Spacing: 20-30 cm apart for edging and foliage contrast.
- Germination: About 10-15 days in warm, bright seed-starting conditions.
- Height: Variable by conditions; allow for a medium foliage plant rather than a low flower.
- Available Pack Sizes: 1000 pelleted seed, 100 pelleted seed
Why Grow Cineraria New Look?
- Silver-white foliage gives beds and containers instant contrast.
- Large, deeply lobed leaves suit modern borders and mixed bedding displays.
- Useful as a decorative foliage stem in floral arrangements.
- Tolerates heat and drier conditions once established.
- Low-maintenance foliage can link many flower colours together.
Garden & Floristry Uses
Use Cineraria New Look as a silver edging plant, container accent, foliage contrast in flower beds or decorative cut foliage. It works especially well with petunias, zinnias, salvias, marigolds and other strong-colour annuals.
Growing Notes
- This product is the silver Dusty Miller type, not the colourful florist cineraria handled in Batch 004.
- Start seed in trays so the small seedlings can be managed carefully.
- Plant into free-draining soil and avoid overwatering.
- Remove flower stems if the goal is compact, fresh foliage.
- Cut foliage in the cool part of the day for arrangements.
