Crop: Tabasco-type hot pepper, Capsicum frutescens.

Growth form: Upright, branching shrub-like plant with small, erect fruit; support stems if needed.

Sow: Start about 6 mm deep in protected, free-draining mix; keep the root zone warm, around 27–32 °C for pepper propagation, and evenly moist.

Plant out: Harden off and transplant to a warm, sunny position after frost risk passes.

Space: Allow about 45–60 cm between plants with room for airflow.

Harvest: Snip fully coloured red fruit for sauces and marinades; handle hot fruit cautiously.
Grow in fertile, well-drained soil, keep watering steady during fruit set, and avoid heavy nitrogen. Wear gloves if chillies irritate your skin, avoid touching your eyes, wash hands and tools, and ventilate when cooking. Sowing seed is for planting, not eating or sprouting.
