Want thick-walled red bell peppers for salads, roasting or stuffing? Santorini is a sweet pepper with blocky fruit that matures from green to red. Give it a sunny, warm garden position and room for its branches to develop.

Ready to grow Santorini? Follow our Pepper and Chilli Grow Guide for protected sowing, hardening off, regional planting windows and fruiting care.

Quick Grow Facts

  • Crop: Santorini sweet red bell pepper, Capsicum annuum.
  • Growth form: Upright, branching fruiting plant; support stems as large fruit develops.
  • Sow: Start about 6 mm deep in protected, free-draining mix. Keep it warm, around 27–32 °C for general pepper propagation, and evenly moist.
  • Plant out: Harden off and transplant into sun after frost risk passes and soil warms.
  • Space: Allow roughly 60 cm between plants, with wider room where growth is vigorous.
  • Harvest: Cut firm green fruit for cooking or let it ripen red for sweeter flavour.

Use fertile, well-drained soil and steady water while flowers and fruit develop. Avoid waterlogged roots and excessive nitrogen. Wash fruit before eating fresh, roasting or stuffing. Sowing seed is for planting, not eating or sprouting. Brought to you by Ubuntuberg Seeds.
