Want to grow your own red paprika peppers for cooking or drying? Paprika Supreme bears long, relatively thin-walled fruit that ripens bright red. Its mild warmth suits savoury dishes, and fully ripe fruit can be dried and ground as a home-grown spice.
Ready to grow Paprika Supreme? Follow our Pepper and Chilli Grow Guide for warm sowing, hardening off, regional timing and fruiting care.
Quick Grow Facts
-
Crop: Paprika Supreme, a paprika-type Capsicum annuum pepper.
-
Growth form: Vigorous, upright branching plant; stake if fruit-laden stems lean.
-
Sow: Start about 6 mm deep in protected, freely draining seed mix. Keep the mix warm, around 27–32 °C for general pepper propagation, and evenly moist.
-
Plant out: Harden seedlings and transplant to sun once frost danger passes and soil warms.
-
Space: Allow about 60 cm between plants, with extra room where growth is vigorous or airflow is poor.
-
Harvest: Cut fruit when bright red for drying and grinding, or use it fresh in cooking. Taste cautiously because heat can be concentrated around the inner ribs.
Care and Kitchen Use
Grow in fertile, well-drained soil and water steadily during flowering and fruit filling. Mulch after soil warms and avoid heavy nitrogen feeding. Wash fruit before use; dry it thoroughly with a food-safe method before grinding or storing.
Pepper safety: Avoid touching your eyes when preparing fruit and wash hands and tools afterwards. Sowing seed is for planting, not eating or sprouting.
