Quick Grow Facts

  • Plant Type: Warm-season annual cut and dried flower.

  • General Sowing Time: Spring to early summer after frost risk has passed; start in trays for earlier flowering.
  • Position: Full sun.
  • Sow Depth: Surface sow or cover very lightly because strawflower seed benefits from light.
  • Spacing: 25-30 cm apart.
  • Germination: About 7-10 days in warm, bright, evenly moist conditions.
  • Height: Around 90-100 cm for cut-flower types.
  • Available Pack Sizes: 20 g raw seed

Why Grow This Variety

  • Fully double strawflower blooms are excellent for drying.
  • Bright mixed colours add cheerful summer garden impact.
  • Papery flowers hold shape and colour well after cutting.
  • Useful for fresh bouquets, wreaths and dried arrangements.

Garden Uses

Grow Helichrysum Swiss Giants Mix in a sunny cut-flower row, annual border or dried-flower garden. Cut stems for fresh use, or harvest partly open blooms and hang them upside down in a dry, airy place for dried arrangements.

Growing Notes

  • Surface sow or cover only very lightly; light supports germination.
  • Use full sun, free-draining soil and 25–30 cm spacing for airflow and usable stems.
  • Keep seedlings evenly moist, then water established plants deeply and let the surface begin drying between waterings.
  • Support tall cutting rows where wind or storms are severe.
  • For drying, cut when the outer bracts are open but the centre is not fully expanded, then hang in a dry, airy, shaded place.
