Helichrysum Swiss Giants Mix Seed produces fully double strawflower blooms for bright garden colour, fresh cutting and dried arrangements. It is a valuable warm-season flower for South African gardeners wanting long-lasting papery blooms with excellent dried-flower potential.

Plant Information

  • Plant Type: Warm-season annual cut and dried flower.
  • Scientific Name: Xerochrysum bracteatum, formerly Helichrysum bracteatum

Growing Information

  • General Sowing Time: Spring to early summer after frost risk has passed; start in trays for earlier flowering.
  • Position: Full sun.
  • Sow Depth: Surface sow or cover very lightly because strawflower seed benefits from light.
  • Spacing: 25-30 cm apart.
  • Germination: About 7-10 days in warm, bright, evenly moist conditions.
  • Height: Around 90-100 cm for cut-flower types.
  • Available Pack Sizes: 20 g raw seed

Why Grow Helichrysum Swiss Giants Mix?

  • Fully double strawflower blooms are excellent for drying.
  • Bright mixed colours add cheerful summer garden impact.
  • Papery flowers hold shape and colour well after cutting.
  • Useful for fresh bouquets, wreaths and dried arrangements.
  • A productive choice for warm, sunny cut-flower beds.

Garden & Floristry Uses

Grow Helichrysum Swiss Giants Mix in a sunny cut-flower row, annual border or dried-flower garden. Cut stems for fresh use, or harvest partly open blooms and hang them upside down in a dry, airy place for dried arrangements.

Growing Notes

  • Sow shallowly and keep seed-starting mix moist without burying the seed deeply.
  • Transplant once seedlings are sturdy and the weather is warm.
  • Provide good airflow to reduce disease pressure.
  • Support tall stems if grown densely for cutting.
  • Harvest for drying before blooms are fully open, as they continue opening after cutting.
