Alyssum Snow Crystals Seeds produce extra-large pure-white fragrant flowers on vigorous spreading and trailing tetraploid Lobularia maritima. Grow them in beds, as groundcover and along container edges.

Ready for larger trailing white flowers? Follow our Alyssum Grow Guide for Snow Crystals for shallow sowing, regional timing and bloom care.

Quick Grow Facts

  • Plant type: Cool-season annual; may be short-lived in mild frost-free conditions
  • Scientific name: Lobularia maritima
  • Cultivar and outcome: Snow Crystals; vigorous spreading or trailing plants with extra-large pure-white flowers
  • Sowing: Sow 5–6 seeds together per cell
  • Sowing time: Cool to mild regional windows; avoid hard frost, peak heat and saturated humid periods
  • Position: Full sun; light afternoon shade in very hot districts
  • Depth and light: Cover very lightly, no deeper than about 1 mm; give bright light after emergence
  • Germination: Aim for about 21–22°C in a warm propagation tray; check daily for uneven emergence
  • Spacing: 15 cm for dense cover; 30–40 cm for a full trailing plant
  • Height and spread: About 15–25 cm high and 30–36 cm wide
  • Flowering: About 8–10 weeks from sowing in favourable conditions

Growing Notes

  • Use fine, free-draining mix and keep the light cover evenly moist without saturation.
  • Transplant the small clump once roots hold the plug together; do not pull every seedling apart.
  • Harden plants over 5–7 days and give the trailing form enough room at container edges.
  • Trim after a flower flush or summer heat pause to encourage fresh growth when nights cool.
