Alyssum Clear Crystal Mixed Seed is Lobularia maritima from the vigorous tetraploid Clear Crystal® series. Separate plants produce fragrant, larger flowers in white, lavender and purple shades for mounded edging, pots and hanging baskets.

Ready for a fuller mixed-colour edge? Follow our Alyssum Grow Guide for Clear Crystal Mixed for shallow sowing, regional timing and bloom care.

Quick Grow Facts

  • Plant type: Cool-season annual; may be short-lived in mild frost-free conditions
  • Scientific name: Lobularia maritima (historical synonym Alyssum maritimum)
  • Series and outcome: Clear Crystal® Mixture; mounded separate plants with fragrant white, lavender and purple flowers
  • Sowing: Sow 5–6 individual seeds or one whole multi-seed pellet per cell
  • Sowing time: Cool to mild regional windows; avoid hard frost, peak heat and saturated humid periods
  • Position: Full sun; light afternoon shade in very hot districts
  • Depth and light: Cover individual fine seeds very lightly. If sowing a multi-seed pellet, use a thicker, loose vermiculite layer and enough water to dissolve it. Give bright light after emergence.
  • Germination: Aim for about 21–22°C in a warm propagation tray; check daily for uneven emergence
  • Spacing: 15 cm for dense edging; 20–25 cm for fuller mounds
  • Height and spread: About 15–25 cm high and 30–36 cm wide
  • Flowering: About 8–10 weeks from sowing in favourable conditions

Growing Notes

  • Pre-moisten fine seedling mix and keep it evenly moist without waterlogging. If using multi-seed pellets, sow each one whole; do not crush it or place several pellets in one small cell.
  • Transplant the small clump once roots hold the plug together; do not pull every seedling apart.
  • Harden plants over 5–7 days and trim after a flower flush to encourage fresh bloom.
  • The mixture contains separately coloured plants; one seed does not produce a multicoloured plant.
