• Plant and growth form: Snow Lady F1, Leucanthemum × superbum; a dwarf, clump-forming perennial that can flower in its first year. It can also be grown as seasonal bedding; long-term survival depends on your site.
• Seed form: 10 or 250 raw seeds. Raw does not confirm untreated status; follow the current packet precautions.
• When to sow: choose mild spring or autumn conditions for your region; protect trays from severe frost, heavy rain and overheating.
• Position: sun and freely draining soil, with light afternoon shade in very hot conditions.
• Sowing: surface sow with a very light vermiculite cover; light is needed. Do not bury 2 cm deep.
• Germination: aim for 21–24°C and an evenly moist surface. Sakata schedules the germination stage through day 14; the existing shop label allows 21–28 days. Conditions and the seed lot affect emergence.
• Transplanting: move intact plugs with about three true leaves, often around six weeks in suitable conditions; harden off gradually first.
• Garden size: Ball Seed lists 30–38 cm height and 30–36 cm spread. Growth varies with conditions and plant age.
• Garden spacing: Ball Seed recommends 46–61 cm centres for clumps; this is wider than the shop label's 25 cm spacing.
• Pinching and support: routine pinching is unnecessary; the compact stems usually need no stakes. Remove faded flowers.
• Flower timing: first-year flowering is possible. Sakata's spring production schedule is 20–24 weeks; this is not a guaranteed South African flowering date.

Before You Sow

The existing 250-seed shop label says 2 cm deep. Sakata's Snow Lady instructions require light and a very light covering instead, so this growing advice follows the breeder's shallow-sowing method. If your physical packet differs, ask the supplier to reconcile the instructions before sowing the full pack. No home seed-chilling, soaking or scarification protocol is prescribed here.

Care for a Compact Display

Use clean seed mix and avoid strong fertiliser around young roots. Keep moisture steady without waterlogging or repeated wilting. Give plants airflow, keep soil and mulch away from crowns, and check for pests, leaf spots and rot. Snow Lady is sensitive to abamectin; avoid spray exposure or drift. Its short stems suit small posies rather than tall cut-flower arrangements.

Safe Handling

Grow as an ornamental, not an edible flower. Shasta daisies may irritate skin and are mildly toxic if eaten by people or pets. Use gloves if sensitive, wash after handling, and keep packet seed away from children and animals. Do not eat sowing seed or use it for sprouts or microgreens; current lot treatment has not been confirmed.
