Quick Grow Facts
-
Crop: Serrano-type hot chilli, Capsicum annuum.
-
Growth form: Upright, branching fruiting plant; support stems if fruit weight or wind makes them lean.
-
Sow: Start about 6 mm deep in protected, free-draining mix; keep it warm, around 27–32 °C for general pepper propagation, and evenly moist.
-
Plant out: Harden off and transplant into sun after frost risk passes and soil warms.
-
Space: About 40–50 cm between plants, wider in humid gardens for airflow.
-
Harvest: Snip firm green fruit for fresh salsa or let it ripen red for cooked sauces.
-
Listed pack: 10 seeds.
Use fertile, well-drained soil and steady water during flowering and fruiting. Wear gloves if hot fruit irritates your skin, avoid touching your eyes, and wash hands and tools. Sowing seed is for planting, not eating or sprouting.
