Poppy Colibri Bianco White Seed produces elegant white Iceland poppy blooms for cool-season South African gardens. The clean white flowers are especially useful for softening bright beds, lifting shaded-looking corners and adding a refined cut-flower touch.

Quick Grow Facts

  • Plant Type: Short-lived perennial, usually grown as a cool-season annual in South African gardens.
  • Scientific Name: Papaver nudicaule (Iceland poppy)
  • Seed Form: Raw; sow as supplied with no soaking or prechill unless a future lot label says otherwise.
  • General Sowing Time: Autumn to early winter in mild South African regions; late winter to early spring in very cold gardens or where winter soil stays waterlogged.
  • Position: Full sun; light afternoon shade can help in hotter inland gardens.
  • Sow Depth: Press onto the moist surface and barely cover with fine vermiculite or sand; keep in bright conditions and do not bury 3 mm.
  • Spacing: 20–25 cm in an intensive cut row; 30–45 cm where larger plants or humid conditions need more airflow.
  • Germination: About 10–15 days at 15–18°C; keep humid for the supplier’s first 4–5 days, then remove the cover and provide airflow.
  • Height: Around 30-60 cm.
  • Available Pack Sizes: 50 raw seed, 500 raw seed

Why Grow This Variety

  • Clean white flowers balance stronger colours in beds and bouquets.
  • Excellent cool-season cut flower for simple, elegant arrangements.
  • Good for cottage gardens, mixed borders, containers and floral work.
  • Attracts pollinators while keeping the planting palette fresh and calm.

Garden Uses

Use Poppy Colibri Bianco as a crisp highlight in cool-season borders, container plantings and cutting rows. The white flowers work especially well with coral, orange, rose, lavender and deep purple companion flowers.

Growing Notes

  • Best grown through the cooler part of the year; flowering quality drops as heat and humidity increase.
  • Start in plug cells and transplant very young after about 25–30 days with minimal root disturbance; direct sow only where fine seed can be kept evenly moist and weed-free.
  • Use fertile but free-draining soil and avoid waterlogged beds or pots.
  • Water at soil level and keep evenly moist without leaving the soil soggy.

Safety: This is ornamental seed, not food-grade seed. Do not eat the seed or any part of the plant, and do not use it for homemade tea or medicine. Keep seed and plants away from children and pets.
