Why Grow This Species
- Pale seed is suited to table mustard, dry mustard and pickling.
- Young leaves add a milder peppery note than mature Black mustard.
- Yellow mustard is relatively tolerant of dry conditions once established.
- The seed outcome is kept separate from Red Giant’s baby-leaf and mature-greens role.
Growing Notes
- Direct-sow 1.5 cm deep and thin to the spacing for the chosen leaf or seed outcome.
- For seed, stop high-nitrogen feeding once flower stalks rise and water moderately through pod fill.
- Harvest when plants and most pods are straw-coloured and seed is firm, full-sized and pale yellow.
- Do not eat packet seed; use home-grown seed only when the entire crop was managed for edible seed.
