Quick Grow Facts

  • Plant type: Tender, seed-grown bedding dahlia; grown as a warm-season annual, with first-season tubers possible
  • Scientific name: Dahlia variabilis (horticultural trade name)
  • Series match: Benary Garden Pride; exact name, coated form, dwarf growth and flower description align, but the current packet does not print breeder identity
  • Seed form: Coated; current variants contain 25 or 1,000 seeds; coating identity is not supplied, so seed is for sowing only
  • Sow time: Packet: spring / summer; start in trays 6–8 weeks before the safe planting date
  • Position: Packet: full sun; Benary: sun to partial shade
  • Sow depth: Packet: 4 mm; Benary says lightly covered
  • Germination warmth: Exact series reference: 20–21°C
  • Germination: Exact controlled series reference: 3–4 days; the packet does not print a home window
  • Moisture: Keep the coating and medium evenly moist until emergence, never saturated; give bright light and airflow afterwards
  • Transplant: Pot on once seedlings can be handled; harden for 7–10 days; plant only after frost
  • Spacing: Packet: 30 × 30 cm
  • Size and growth form: Uniform dwarf plants, about 30 cm high
  • Pinching and support: Routine pinching and staking are not needed; pinch once only if a young plant is lanky
  • Flower outcome: Early, colourful semi-double blooms; Benary's controlled spring crop is 8–9 weeks

Growing Notes

Place coated seed on clean, pre-moistened seedling mix and cover to the packet's 4 mm. Hold at 20–21°C and keep moisture even so the coating does not dry hard, but do not leave the tray sodden. Move emerged seedlings into bright light. Transplant at the plug depth into fertile, free-draining soil after frost, water during hot dry weather and deadhead regularly.

Evidence boundary: the Benary series reference is a defensible exact-name and seed-form match, not a lot trace printed on the current packet. The purchased packet remains controlling, and the exact coating treatment is held for supplier confirmation.
