Why Grow This Variety
- Sweet, tender flesh and mild flavour suit many recipes.
- Straight, firm roots with blunt ends are easy to slice and dice.
- Smooth cylindrical roots with blunt ends suit beds and sufficiently deep containers.
Garden Uses
Eat them raw or in salads and snacks, or roast them and add them to stews.
Growing Notes
- Loosen the final bed to about 30 cm, remove stones and clods, and rake a level, fine surface.
- Direct sow 3 mm deep. Keep the shallow seed zone continuously moist through the full packet germination window.
- When seedlings are about 2–3 cm tall, snip extras rather than tugging neighbouring taproots; finish at 5 cm spacing.
- Water evenly for uninterrupted root growth, weed shallowly, and avoid fresh manure, unfinished compost and excess nitrogen.
- 90–130 days on the current Gardening packet; begin checking from about day 90.
