Why Grow Asparagus Meyerii?

  • Distinctive foxtail plumes create strong texture in pots and borders.
  • South African ornamental foliage plant with excellent container value.
  • Useful as long-lasting greenery for floral arrangements.
  • Fairly drought tolerant once established.
  • A good choice for shaded patios, verandas and protected garden beds.

Garden & Floristry Uses

Use Asparagus Meyerii as a container feature, a textural foliage plant in semi-shaded beds, or a soft green contrast in mixed planters. The upright plumes also make useful decorative foliage for cut arrangements.

Growing Notes

  • This is an ornamental asparagus, not a true fern.
  • Use a free-draining mix enriched with compost for the best growth.
  • Keep seed trays warm and evenly moist, but never waterlogged.
  • Established plants cope with some dryness, but look fuller with regular watering.
  • Trim old or tired fronds and refresh with compost mulch after flowering.
