💧 How to Grow Your Amaryllis Hydroponically

Growing an amaryllis in water is wonderfully simple. Just follow these steps:

1. Prepare the Vase

Fill the vase with fresh, clean water until the level sits just below the base of the bulb.
👉 The water must NOT touch the bulb – only the roots.
This prevents rotting and encourages healthy root development.

2. Position the Bulb

Place the bulb in the top opening of the vase with the pointed tip facing upwards.
The bulb should sit securely, with the base of the bulb suspended above the water line.

3. Add the Bulb Food

Dissolve the included bulb food sachet into the water according to the instructions.
This provides gentle, balanced nutrients to support strong root growth and vibrant blooms.

4. Find the Perfect Spot

  • Bright, indirect light

  • Avoid harsh midday sun

  • Ideal room temperature: 20–24°C

5. Growth & Rooting

Within 1–2 weeks the roots will reach down into the water.
A flower stalk will soon follow, growing rapidly.

6. Ongoing Care

  • Top up water as needed to keep the roots submerged.

  • Change the water every 7–10 days for freshness and proper oxygenation.

  • Add a small pinch of bulb food every 2–3 weeks if growth is slow (optional).

7. Bloom Time

Expect beautiful blooms 4–10 weeks after starting.
Sonatini types often send up multiple stems for extended flowering.

🌺 After Flowering

Allow the leaves to grow and strengthen the bulb.
Move it to soil or continue hydroponically with intermittent feeding.
Let the bulb rest dry in winter to rebloom the following season.
