Grow bright Gerbera colour in a compact pot with Revolution Select Mix, an F1 pot series. The mix is designed to flower in a coordinated window, but no fixed colour percentages are published.

Ready to fill a compact pot with bold Gerbera colour? Follow our step-by-step Gerbera Grow Guide for Revolution Select Mix for coated-seed sowing, germination, transplanting and regional care.

Quick Grow Facts

  • Plant Type: Frost-tender pot-type perennial, commonly grown as a seasonal display.
  • Scientific Name: Gerbera jamesonii; Revolution F1 Select Mixture.
  • Seed Form: Sow as supplied. If coated, sow the whole individual seed; follow any treatment or handling warning supplied with it.
  • Freshness: Gerbera seed loses viability quickly. Sow promptly after delivery and keep any short-term remainder sealed, cool and dry.
  • Pretreatment: None. Do not soak, scarify or chill.
  • Best Sowing Window: Start under protection from late winter into spring, or use the guide's regional window.
  • Position: Bright light, morning sun or partial sun; protect from frost and extreme afternoon heat.
  • Sow Depth and Light: For coated seed, sow one individual seed per plug with only a light coarse-vermiculite cover. Light is optional during germination; do not bury deeply.
  • Germination Temperature: 21–23°C at the root zone during germination; about 20–21°C after emergence.
  • Germination: Timing varies; keep 21–23°C, even moisture and check daily for emergence.
  • Method: Use clean 128–144-cell plugs or similar individual cells; outdoor direct sowing is not recommended.
  • Transplanting: Move a firm 6–7-week plug before it becomes root-bound. Set it slightly high so the crown remains at soil level after watering.
  • Spacing: 30–36 cm in a bed, or one plant in an 11–13 cm pot.
  • Growth Form: Compact upright rosette; the plant body is low and flowering stems often reach roughly 30–40 cm depending on conditions.
  • Pinching: None. Remove fading flower stems at the base.
  • Flowering: Plan about 18–24 weeks from sowing at home; controlled production can reach 50% flowering sooner.

Why Grow This Series

  • The mix produces bold, bright flower colours in a coordinated flowering window.
  • Compact foliage and shorter stems suit 11–13 cm pots and close-view patio displays.
  • If using coated seed, place one whole individual seed per plug.
  • No pinching is required.

Growing Notes

  • Use fresh, airy, free-draining seedling mix and keep it evenly moist until the root emerges.
  • Vent the cover at emergence, then reduce humidity gradually and provide bright light with good airflow.
  • After establishment, let the surface begin to dry between waterings while the root zone remains moist.
  • Feed lightly once rooted, keep the crown dry and protect finished pots from frost and temperatures above about 29°C.

Colour note: Select Mixture is sold as a bold, bright mixture, but an individual packet is not guaranteed to contain every colour or equal percentages.

Safety: Gerbera is listed as non-toxic to dogs, cats and horses, but it is ornamental, not edible. Do not eat the plant or coated seed; keep the packet away from children and pets and follow any treatment warning.
