Quick Grow Facts
-
Crop: Short Red Cayenne, a hot Capsicum annuum pepper type.
-
Growth form: Branching fruiting plant; support stems if laden or wind-exposed.
-
Sow: Start about 6 mm deep in protected, free-draining mix; keep it warm, around 27–32 °C for general pepper propagation, and evenly moist.
-
Plant out: Harden off and move into sun after frost risk passes and soil warms.
-
Space: About 40–50 cm between garden plants, or one plant in a free-draining container of roughly 5–6 litres or larger.
-
Harvest: Snip fully red fruit for fresh sauces or dry it thoroughly before grinding.
Give plants fertile soil, full sun and even moisture through flowering and fruiting without waterlogging. Wear gloves for hot fruit, avoid touching your eyes, and wash hands and tools. Sowing seed is for planting, not eating or sprouting.
