Want firm jalapeño fruit for salsa, stuffing or grilling? Jalapeño M is a hot pepper type with thick-walled fruit that can be used green or allowed to ripen red. Judge the heat of a harvest cautiously; it can vary.

Ready to grow Jalapeño M from seed? Follow our Pepper and Chilli Grow Guide for warm sowing, transplanting, regional timing and ongoing fruit care.

Quick Grow Facts

  • Crop: Jalapeño M, a hot Capsicum annuum pepper.
  • Growth form: Upright, branching fruiting plant; stake if heavily loaded or exposed to wind.
  • Sow: Start indoors or under protection about 6 mm deep in fine, freely draining mix. Warm seed mix around 27–32 °C supports general pepper germination; keep it evenly moist, never sodden.
  • Plant out: Harden seedlings gradually, then plant in sun after frost danger passes and soil warms.
  • Space: Roughly 40–50 cm between plants, with wider room if humid conditions limit airflow.
  • Harvest: Snip firm fruit green for classic jalapeño use or leave it to ripen red. Taste a small prepared piece first to judge the heat of your harvest.

Care and Kitchen Use

Give plants fertile, well-drained soil and steady water during flowering and fruit filling. Avoid heavy nitrogen feeding. Monitor for aphids and leaf spots, improve airflow and diagnose problems before using a crop-labelled treatment. Wash fruit before using it fresh, grilled or stuffed.

Chilli safety: Wear gloves when preparing fruit if your skin is sensitive, avoid touching eyes and face, and wash hands and tools. Keep sowing seed away from children, pets and food.
