Sowing and germination

Troubleshooting

No germination after a week

Check that seed was not buried deeply, the mix stayed moist, and the tray was close to 18–22 °C. Cold nights, a dry surface, crusting or waterlogging can delay emergence.

Leggy seedlings

Increase light, reduce crowding and ventilate the tray after emergence. Avoid excess warmth without enough light.

Seedlings collapse at the base

Damping off is associated with saturated mix, poor airflow or contaminated trays. Remove affected seedlings and restart in clean cells with fresh mix.

Leaves but few flowers
