Capsicum Sweet Banana Seed remains a popular sweet pepper for home and market gardeners. Sturdy plants can produce heavy crops of long pointed fruit that ripen from yellow to glossy red and grow well in containers.

Plant Information

  • Plant Type: Frost-tender sweet pepper, usually grown as an annual.
  • Scientific Name: Capsicum annuum
  • Common Name: Sweet banana pepper.

Growing Information

  • General Sowing Time: Start in pots or trays, then transplant outside once warm weather has settled and frost risk has passed.
  • Position: Sunny, sheltered position protected from strong winds.
  • Sow Depth: About 6 mm in warm seed trays.
  • Spacing: Around 60 cm apart.
  • Germination: Best in warm seed mix at 27-32 C; germination is slow in cool soil.
  • Height: Sturdy container-suitable plants; support if fruit load becomes heavy.

  • Fruit Size: Around 10-20 cm long and 4 cm across.
  • Harvest: Fruit ripens from yellow to glossy red.

Garden Uses

  • Use compost-rich, well-drained soil.
  • Water regularly and keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy.
  • Feed every 4-6 weeks through the fruiting season.
  • Support plants if they become heavy with fruit.
