Grow Everleaf Emerald Tower when you want tall, narrow basil plants that deliver classic flavour without taking over the bed. This highly branched columnar variety flowers much later than standard basil, giving you a long season of fresh leaves for repeated picking.

Quick Grow Facts

  • Plant Type: Tender annual culinary herb.
  • Seed Form: Raw seed. Treatment status is not confirmed; do not eat seed.
  • Scientific Name: Ocimum basilicum
  • Common Name: Everleaf Emerald Tower basil.
  • General Sowing Time: Sow from spring to autumn while conditions are warm. In frost-prone areas, plant out only after frost risk has passed.
  • Position: Full sun.
  • Sow Depth: 0.5 cm (5 mm); cover lightly.
  • Spacing: Breeder guidance is 15-30 cm apart; the current Gardening label uses 40 cm. Follow your packet and favour wider spacing in humid gardens.
  • Germination: Allow 7-14 days around 20-23°C in home conditions.
  • Growth Form and Size: Tall, narrow and columnar; about 61-91 cm high and 20-30 cm wide.
  • Harvest: About 45-60 days from direct sowing or 30-45 days from transplant.
  • Flowering: Flowers about 10-12 weeks later than standard basil under breeder conditions.
  • Disease Resistance: Intermediate resistance to basil downy mildew and standard resistance to Fusarium. Resistance can reduce risk but is not immunity.
  • Available Pack Sizes: 20, 500 and 1,000 raw seed.

Why Grow Everleaf Emerald Tower?

  • Tall, narrow plants fit productive harvests into limited bed or container space.
  • Classic Genovese flavour suits pesto, sauces, salads and fresh cooking.
  • Late flowering supports a longer leaf-picking season.
  • Listed resistance can reduce disease pressure when combined with airflow, clean tools and careful watering.

Garden Uses

Grow Emerald Tower in a sunny herb bed or roomy container where its upright growth is easy to harvest. Pick young tips regularly for pesto, salads, sauces and other fresh dishes.

Growing Notes

  • Sow in warm conditions and transplant after frost risk has passed.
  • Keep the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged.
  • Pinch growing tips above a pair of leaves to encourage branching, and remove flower spikes if leaf harvest is the priority.
  • In humid districts, water at soil level in the morning, use wider spacing and keep foliage dry.
  • In hot, dry districts, mulch after the soil has warmed and water deeply at the root before plants wilt.
  • Follow the instructions on the packet you receive if they differ.
