Cultivating the Hymenocallis Advance is a joy. Here’s how to ensure it flourishes in your South African garden:
Sunlight: They adore bright, indirect light or partial shade, especially during the hottest parts of the day. Think morning sun, afternoon shade.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist during the growing season (summer) but ensure excellent drainage to prevent waterlogging. During our cooler, drier winter months, reduce watering significantly as the plant goes dormant. 💧
Soil: A well-draining, rich soil mix is ideal. Amend with compost to give your Spider Lily the best start.
Planting: Plant the bulbs in spring (September/October in South Africa) just before the warm weather truly kicks in. Ensure the neck of the bulb is just above the soil line.
Feeding: A balanced liquid fertiliser every few weeks during the active growing period will encourage abundant blooms.
Imagine the serene mornings, sipping your coffee, surrounded by these magnificent blooms, or the enchanting evenings, their white petals glowing under the moonlight. The Hymenocallis Advance is more than just a plant; it's an invitation to create your own personal paradise, a place of peace and breathtaking beauty.

For flowers in the home, cut stems 10cm above the bulb. Look out for snails and slugs that may attack their foliage.
