Petunia Daddy Mix Seeds produce large grandiflora flowers with distinctive veined patterns. The mixed colours bring texture and contrast to sunny gardens, balconies and planters.

Grow Guide: How to grow Petunia Daddy Mix from seed in South Africa.

Quick Grow Facts

  • Plant Type: F1 grandiflora petunia, grown as a frost-tender annual
  • Scientific Name: Petunia × hybrida
  • Seed Form: Pelleted seed; sow one pellet per cell
  • South African Sowing Time: Start protected trays about 8–10 weeks before safe planting-out weather; use the regional guide for local timing
  • Position: Full sun; light afternoon relief only during severe heat
  • Sow Method: Surface-sow on pre-moistened fine mix, press into contact and do not cover; bright light supports home germination
  • Pretreatment: None; mist thoroughly so the pellet coating softens
  • Germination: Usually 7–10 days at 22–25°C; allow up to 14 days if home temperatures fluctuate
  • Spacing: 25–36 cm
  • Growth Form: Mounded and upright
  • Height: 25–38 cm
  • Spread: 25–30 cm
  • Flowering: Usually about 10–14 weeks from sowing in well-managed home conditions
  • Current Packet Options: 50 pelleted seed, 500 pelleted seed, 5000 pelleted seed

Why Grow This Variety

  • Veined flowers create a distinctive patterned display.
  • Blooms reach up to approximately 10 cm wide.
  • Early, consistent flowering supports seasonal colour.
  • A mixed palette adds variety to grouped planting.

Garden Uses

Use Daddy Mix in full-sun beds, balcony containers or planters where its large patterned flowers can be viewed up close.

Growing Notes

  • Use clean, fine, freely drained seedling mix. Surface-sow and mist the pellet until its coating softens; never bury it.
  • Keep the surface evenly moist and humid only until emergence, then provide bright light and airflow.
  • Move seedlings at about three true leaves and harden them gradually for 7–10 days before planting outside.
  • Plant at the exact spacing above in fertile, freely drained soil and water at the root.
  • Water at the root and shelter the large grandiflora blooms from repeated hard rain.
