Add fresh green texture and small yellow flowers to home-grown bouquets with Bupleurum Griffitti, a versatile filler for garden and vase.

Ready to grow fresh green stems for your own bouquets? Follow our step-by-step Bupleurum Griffitti Grow Guide for sowing, seedling care, regional timing and choosing stems for the vase.

Quick Grow Facts

Plant: Bupleurum rotundifolium, Griffitti trade name; upright, branching annual for ornamental use. Ball Straathof lists about 80 cm height; Harris gives about 30–38 cm spread. Dimensions vary with conditions.

Seed: raw; treatment status is not established. Cover with about 1 mm of fine compost, aim for 16–18°C and allow 14–21 days. Keep seed covered rather than surface-sowing it for light.

Position and spacing: full sun, freely draining soil; 25 × 25 cm garden spacing. Direct sow, or transplant young intact plugs after hardening off. Add support in wind.

Growing window: choose a cool period for germination, avoiding overheated trays or soil. Use autumn or spring where conditions suit; protect young plants from severe frost. The guide adapts timing to four South African climate regions.

More sowing and cutting advice

The digital label lists flowering at 12–14 weeks without a stated starting point. Cut firm, developed yellow-green clusters when more than half of the tiny flowers are open. Keep seedlings evenly moist, avoid saturated soil and allow airflow. Routine pinching is not necessary.

Start with dry seed without routine soaking, scarification or chilling. Supplier light/depth protocols differ, and research shows that temperature and seed origin matter. The guide explains our shallow-cover starting method and alternatives without promising a fixed germination result. Follow any supplied treatment or handling warnings.

Ornamental use only: do not use seeds or plants for food, sprouts, microgreens, animal feed or herbal medicine. Raw is not a guarantee of untreated or food-grade seed.

Why Grow This Variety

  • Green foliage and yellow flowers form a lush backdrop that helps feature blooms stand out.
  • Graceful stems add height and visual interest to arrangements.
  • Direct sowing lets you establish a cutting patch without moving young roots.
