Digitalis Dalmatian F1 White Seeds produce first-year perennial flower spikes in white. Uniform height, well-branched growth and compact foliage suit beds and containers.

Quick Grow Facts

  • Plant Type: First-year-flowering Digitalis purpurea perennial; often grown as a biennial or short-lived perennial
  • Series: Dalmatian F1
  • Seed Form: Pelleted
  • Pretreatment: None; do not soak, scarify, chill, crush or remove the pellet
  • General Sowing Time: Use the regional cool-season windows in the linked South African Grow Guide
  • Position: Morning sun or bright partial shade; protect from severe afternoon heat
  • Sow Depth: Maximum planting depth 1 mm. Light is required for germination. Leave the pellet uncovered where continuous moisture can be maintained; in a dry environment, use only a very light, light-transmitting dusting of fine vermiculite, never deeper than 1 mm
  • Germination: 18–20°C; breeder-controlled 5–6 days from 50% to maximum germination
  • Spacing: 30 cm; use 45 cm where humid conditions require more airflow
  • Height: 41–51 cm
  • Spread: 30–36 cm
  • Best For: Borders, larger containers, pollinator planting and compact first-year flower spikes

Grow Guide: How to grow Dalmatian foxgloves from pelleted seed in South Africa.

Why Grow This Variety

  • Plants flower in their first year.
  • White flower spikes create a classic display.
  • Compact well-branched growth suits smaller spaces.
  • Plants grow in sun or partial shade.

Garden Uses

Grow Dalmatian F1 foxgloves in borders or larger containers with good drainage and the final spacing listed above.

Growing Notes

  • Sow the pellet on pre-moistened mix and press gently for contact. Leave it uncovered where continuous moisture can be maintained; in a dry environment, use only a very light, light-transmitting dusting of fine vermiculite, never deeper than 1 mm.
  • Maintain 18–20°C, light and continuous pellet moisture without waterlogging.
  • Pot on when true leaves and roots hold the plug, then harden gradually.
  • Plant at the 30 cm breeder spacing, widening to 45 cm where humid conditions require extra airflow.
