How to Grow Your Organic Blue Oyster Mushrooms – Step-by-Step Guide

Congratulations on Your Mushroom Kit!

Welcome to the world of homegrown gourmet mushrooms! 🎉 You’ve just taken the first step towards growing your own fresh, organic Blue Oyster mushrooms right in your kitchen. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or a complete beginner, this kit makes the process fun, easy, and rewarding.

With just a little care, you’ll soon be harvesting delicious mushrooms packed with flavour and nutrition. Follow this simple step-by-step guide to get started!

Step 1: Unbox Your Kit & Get Ready

When your Organic Blue Oyster Mushroom Grow Kit arrives, it’s time to get growing! Inside, you’ll find:

✅ A fully inoculated mushroom-growing log
✅ A cotton stopper
✅ A humidity bag

Find a spot in your home with good airflow and ambient light—a kitchen counter, shelf, or tabletop works perfectly. Avoid direct sunlight or dark, stuffy areas.

Step 2: Activate Your Mushroom Log

1️⃣ Remove the Cap – Take off the lid from the container to expose the mushroom log.
2️⃣ Place the Log Upright – Set it on your counter in a well-lit area, away from direct sunlight.
3️⃣ Unplug the Cotton Stopper – This is where the mushrooms will breathe and absorb moisture.
4️⃣ Fill with Water – Pour cold water into the hole and let the log absorb moisture for 5–10 minutes, then drain.

Step 3: Encourage Mushroom Growth

1️⃣ Make Cuts in the Log – Using a clean knife, make three horizontal cuts across the surface.
2️⃣ Mist & Cover – Spray the log lightly with water and mist the inside of the humidity bag.
3️⃣ Create a Humid Environment – Place the humidity bag over the log to trap moisture.

Step 4: Watch for Mushroom Growth

🕒 Over the next 5–10 days, tiny mushroom pinheads will start appearing! Once you see them:

Remove the humidity bag permanently – This helps the mushrooms develop properly.
Mist the log daily – Keep the surface moist but not soggy.

Step 5: Harvest Your Mushrooms!

Your mushrooms will be ready to harvest when the caps are flat but still slightly curled downwards. This usually happens within 7–14 days after pinheads appear.

✂️ To harvest: Gently twist or cut the mushrooms at the base. Don’t pull too hard—this keeps the log healthy for future flushes!

🌿 Good news: Your log can produce multiple harvests! After harvesting, repeat the process to encourage new growth.
