Strawberry F1 Summer Breeze Rose is a compact, day-neutral ornamental-fruiting variety with few runners, red semi-double flowers and bright-red, sweet-sour conical fruit.

Grow it successfully: How to grow Strawberry F1 Summer Breeze Rose from seed in South Africa.

Quick Grow Facts

  • Plant Type: Day-neutral perennial fruiting strawberry
  • Scientific Name: Fragaria × ananassa
  • Seed Form: Raw seed; “raw” does not prove untreated status, so follow any lot-specific packet warning
  • General Sowing Time: Protected trays when 20–22°C can be maintained; use the regional windows in the guide
  • Position: Full sun in mild conditions; afternoon protection during severe dry heat
  • Sow Depth: Press onto the surface; use no cover only where humidity stays constant, otherwise add a very light dusting of fine vermiculite
  • Pretreatment: None in the current breeder protocol; do not soak or cold-stratify by default
  • Spacing: 30–40 cm
  • Germination: About 10–14 days at 22°C; light is not required for germination, but seedlings need bright light immediately after emergence
  • Growth Form: About 25–30 cm high and 30–40 cm wide
  • Harvest: The breeder lists fruit about 9–12 weeks from transplant under controlled production; home timing varies

Why Grow This Variety

  • Red semi-double flowers create an ornamental display.
  • The breeder describes bright-red, sweet-sour conical fruit.
  • The variety suits containers, hanging baskets and beds.
  • Flowers and fruit are described as continuing through the growing season.

Garden Uses

Use Summer Breeze Rose in patio containers, hanging baskets or garden beds for rose-coloured flowers and home-grown fruit.

Growing Notes

  • Sow on the surface of clean, pre-moistened, low-salt seedling mix. For home conditions, use only a transparent dusting of fine vermiculite; do not bury the seed.
  • Maintain 22°C and even humidity without waterlogging. Light is not required for germination, but move the tray into bright light as soon as the first seedlings emerge.
  • Do not soak or cold-stratify this stocked cultivar by default.
  • Pot on when several true leaves have formed and roots hold the plug together; harden gradually before planting out.
  • Set the crown at soil level, space 30–40 cm apart, and use root-zone watering and clean mulch without covering the crown.
